Heart Crochet Wash Cloth – Easy Free Pattern

crochet wash cloth

The holidays came and went and next up is that special day for all the sweethearts in our lives. I always like to include handmade gifts for my loved ones. This year I decided to make my go to crochet wash cloth with a twist. To celebrate Valentine’s day I crocheted a heart into this cute little cloth.

Inspiration for crochet wash cloth

First of all, I use my crochet wash cloths for everything around my house. They are used for washing dishes, cleaning, and of course bath time. I knew I needed to make some Valentine’s wash cloths for my kiddos. These are perfect because they work up so quickly, you can combine any colors, they are super durable, and the best of all, they are washable. After the bath or cleaning, I just throw these cloths right in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry.

My all time favorite crochet stitch is the half double crochet (hdc). I knew going into this project that I wanted a few things. First, when making a crochet wash cloth I like to use a tighter stitch. Therefore, I decided to go with the half double crochet between posts. Second, I wanted a stitch that is easy to work up and looks like a million bucks when you are finished. Third, I am not the biggest fan of having to weave a ton of ends in on a project so, for this crochet wash cloth I decided the carry the yarn along when changing colors. This gave the cloth a unique look to the heart, and you don’t have to spend time weaving in ends.

Yarn

I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn for a few reasons. First, it is 100% cotton. Second, it has a bit of firmness to it so I knew it would stand up to any cleaning yet be soft enough in the bath. Third, this yarn is also machine washable and safe to put in the dryer. Finally, it comes in a 4oz skein in many different colors, so the possibilities are endless.
