Easy Crochet Velvet Blanket

crochet velvet blanket

Months ago I purchased some velvet yarn. I was at Joann Fabric with my daughter and she begged me to make her a blanket with velvet yarn. First, I started playing around with the yarn and testing different stitches. I quickly found out that many of my favorite stitches didn’t turn out as I had hoped with the velvet. I decided to make the easiest crochet velvet blanket using the simple single crochet stitch.

I absolutely love the feeling of the Bernat Velvet yarn for a blanket. The down side to this super soft yarn is that it can be slightly slippery to work with. Velvet yarn can also come a bit loose if you don’t keep your tension tight enough. For this reason I used a hook size smaller than what is recommended. I also ended up using single crochets for this blanket, which helped keep my stitches tighter. Using single crochets for this crochet velvet blanket also allows for you to be able to make your blanket any size your want without any calculations.

You will want to make a swatch when starting this pattern. First, to start this crochet velvet blanket I highly suggest making a swatch so that you can plan out your blanket’s final size. Second, you will also want to make a swatch because you will be using a tighter tension than normal. Finally, you will also be using a hook size smaller, which will affect your final size.
