Crochet Dish Scrubby Pattern – Free, Easy, Beginner

I always dreaded having to hand wash the dishes because I always hated having to touch those yellow and green sponges. They always were smelly and full of germs. That’s why I decided to make a crochet dish scrubby pattern that was washable and could be reused again and again.

Inspiration for Crochet Dish Scrubby Pattern

For years I’ve been buying the standard sponges with the yellow bottom and the green scrubby top. After just a few uses the sponge starts to stink and the green scrubby top wears off. I wanted to create a dish scrubby pattern that could be thrown in with the rest of the laundry and reused time and time again.

This pattern uses a simple half double crochet stitch making it the perfect pattern for a crochet beginner. When creating this crochet pattern I knew that I wanted the dish scrubby to stand up to my cast iron pans. So, I decided to make the scrubby double thick using two strands of yarn. This makes the scrubby thick enough to stand up to my hot cast iron pans. This scrubby is also great for tackling hard to clean messes around the kitchen or bathroom. It also pairs great with the Ryan Dishcloth.

Yarn

I knew the perfect yarn for this dish scrubby was Red Heart Scrubby Yarn. First, I knew this yarn would be perfect because of its unique texture. Second, this yarn dries out quickly because it is 100% polyester, so it doesn’t stay soaking wet in the sink. Third, this yarn is widely available at most craft stores at a great price of $4.99.
