Inspiration For Crochet Pillow

My Peace Out 2020 crochet pillow free pattern was inspired by the crappy year, 2020. I think we can all agree that 2020 STUNK! Between the COVID-19 pandemic and the hatred seen across the country, we are all glad to see the year in the past. I LOVE peace signs, so creating a pillow to say goodbye to 2020 was perfect.

This crochet pillow free pattern is the perfect project for a number of reasons. First, it is a project that won’t take forever to complete. Second, the pattern uses bobble stitches and single crochets. Third, you can use any color and really any weight 4 yarn to make it your own. And finally, once the pillow is stuffed with a nice, soft pillow insert, it’s cozy enough to take a nap on.

Second, this yarn is very affordable at $4.99. Add a coupon to that and you really cut the costs. Third, this yarn is available in a variety of colors so it will suit anyones tastes. Finally, I have found that this yarn is widely available at most craft stores.

Project Details

Yarn – Lion Brand Wool-Ease, Weight 4 Medium, (80% Acrylic, 20% Wool, 197 yards/180m/3oz/85g, Color – (A) Wheat – 3 skeins, (B) Oxford Grey – 1 skein 

Hook Size – US J-10/6mm

Gauge – 4” square = 13 sts x 18 rows

Finished size – 16” W x 16” H

Stitch markers may also be used to help with seaming.

Will need a tapestry needle, scissors, and 16” x 16” pillow insert.

Stitch Description

Bobble stitch: *Yo, insert hook into stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through two loops; repeat from * in same st until you have 6 loops on your hook. Yo, pull through all 6 loops.

All single crochet stitches are worked as follows: insert hook into stitch, yarn under and bring the hook from back to front, draw yarn through the stitch and up onto the working area of the crochet hook, you will have two loops on the hook. Yo and draw through both loops on the hook. Yarn under was used for this project for a slant/twisted look with increased tension.

Pattern Notes

  • Ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Do not skip first stitch in each row.
  • After ch 54, work in back bump for Row 1. Rotate the chain toward you and insert your hook though the back bump loop.
  • Even rows are right side of the pillow.

Next, line up both sides of pillow with rs facing out.

Note: Line up both sides and secure them with stitch markers to hold in place.

Round 1: Attach color A in corner st, work 3 sc in corner sp , sc 51 across, 3 sc in corner sp, sc 51 down side working approximately 2 sc for each 3 rows, 3 sc in corner sp, sc 51 across, 3 sc in corner sp. At this point insert your 16” x 16” pillow. With stitch markers, hold the two sides closed while working sc 51 down the last side of the pillow border. Then, fasten off, weave in ends.

Round 2: With color B, sl st to join in back loop of second  sc of 3 sc corner, *3 sc in back loop of corner sc, sc back loop only in each st to next corner st; rep from * around, sl st in first sc of corner. Then, fasten off, weave in ends.

Round 3: With color A, sl st to join in back loop of second  sc of 3 sc corner, *3 sc in back loop of corner sc, sc back loop only in each st to next corner st; rep from * around, sl st in first  sc of corner. Finally, fasten off, weave in ends.
