If you’re looking to add some eye-catching texture to your crochet projects, the bobble stitch is the way to go. This versatile stitch is perfect for enhancing crochet projects. In this tutorial, I will guide you through the steps to create the crochet bobble stitch and show you how to incorporate it into your designs. (Video below).
Materials You’ll Need:
1. Yarn of your choice
2. Crochet hook (size recommended on yarn label)
3. Scissors
4. Yarn needle
Getting started with the crochet bobble stitch
To get started, create a foundation chain of the desired length for your project. The number of chains should be a multiple of the number of stitches required for the bobble plus one for turning if you are working the bobble stitch all the way across. For example, if your bobble consists of 5 stitches, start with a chain of 6.
In most of my pillow patterns I complete several rows of single crochets before I start with the bobble stitch.
After you complete a row of single crochet on the right side of your project you will turn your work. You will always work the bobble stitch on the wrong side of your project.
To start the bobble stitch you will [yarn over (YO) and insert your hook into the designated chain. Yarn over again and pull up a loop, leaving you with three loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops on your hook, leaving two loops remaining.]
Repeat the above process until you have a total of 6 loops on your hook. This will create a cluster of loops. Now, yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. This completes the bobble stitch. You will then make a single crochet in the next stitch. This makes it so the bobbles will stand out and add texture to your work.
