After growing in my crochet craft I have always wanted to create a rainbow crochet blanket. Like many, whenever I see a rainbow I always get a huge smile on my face and feel that it is good luck and that day will be a great day! Every, single, time!
Inspiration
The Piper Rainbow Crochet Blanket pattern is a fun project for all levels of crochet. My daughter LOVES to draw and is constantly coloring rainbows. So, when I asked her what she wanted me to make she immediately said she wanted a rainbow blanket. It was then that the Piper Rainbow Crochet Blanket was started.

So, that day I started making a rainbow blanket. First, I knew I wanted this blanket to be an easy pattern so it uses the half double crochet mixed with the puff stitch this blanket which gives it a unique texture. These simple stitches work up into a stunning blanket. Second, I love that you can customize this pattern with any colors you want, and you can use any medium weight yarn as well. This rainbow crochet blanket makes for a great gift for birthdays, baby showers, or newborns.
Yarn
Big Twist Soft yarn is the perfect yarn for this blanket. First, it is soft, comes in many colors, is washable, and is inexpensive. Second, you can find this yarn at your local Joann store. Third, at $4.99 per skein you cannot beat the price. And finally, typically you can find a coupon to get an even better deal.
Big Twist Soft yarn is 100% acrylic and medium weight yarn. For this blanket I used violet, rose, blush, light grey, charcoal, taupe, and cream. These were the perfect colors to create a soft, cozy feel. This yarn comes in so many colors so you can create any rainbow you can dream of!

Hi, I love this blanket and want to make it for my 5 year old nephew. I want to make it in the brighter colors and was wondering what color blue you used? The only blue color I can find in Big Twist Soft is called ‘Denim’.
Would love the info.
Thanks!
It seems that Big Twist possibly discontinued the Royal Blue color. Any 4 weight yarn will work. I have made several with Lion Brand yarn as well. I hope you find the right colors! And, I would love to see a picture of it when you finish, share using #thehyperhook.
What yarn brand and colors are used on the rainbow with primary colors?the first pic.
That is Big Twist Soft yarn.
When you do the puff stitch, do you do a puff stitch in every hdc in the previous row or do you skip one?
You alternate the puff stitch and single crochet.
I would love to make the rainbow blanket and am wondering about the colors used. The pattern uses gray, taupe, cream, etc… I know I can choose my own but I really like the colors in the picture!!
Hi, unfortunately Big Twist has discontinued many of the sizes I used in the photo.
How do I get the arch to lie flat? It keeps curling/rolling on me.
Often if your gauge is too tight this will happen. You can try to loosen your gauge.
