It’s finally fall!!! That is great news for us in South Florida, it’s finally starting to cool down. It also makes me day dream about gorgeous fall days up North with the leaves changing, crisp air, corn mazes, and apple picking. To get into the fall spirit I wanted to create a chunky, cozy crochet blanket to curl up with on a crisp fall night.
Inspiration
I grew up in Northwest Colorado where the trees in the Rocky Mountains turned beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. The temperature started to drop, meaning winter was around the corner. It was a short lived season of beauty and the best weather. Now, we live in South Florida so we don’t get the changing of the colors but the weather does start to cool down for us. By that I mean 70 degrees at night and high 80s during the day. We try to get away on a fall trip each year to Wisconsin or Michigan to experience fall.
I made this crochet blanket for curling up on the front porch of my mother in law’s house in upstate Michigan and for around a night sitting on the dock at my father’s cabin in Northern Wisconsin. This blanket is so cozy to snuggle up with while enjoying a night drinking apple cider. It also makes for the perfect home decor for the fall season.

Yarn
I knew that I wanted a chunky crochet blanket for fall so I quickly decided on using Lion Brand Hometown USA yarn. First, this yarn is so very soft with a silky look to it. Second, it comes in a ton of colors so you can choose your perfect autumn tone. Third, this yarn is available at almost all craft stores, even many big box stores. And finally, at $5.99 you cannot be the price.

Project Details
Yarn – Lion Brand Hometown USA, Weight 6 Super Bulky, (100% Acrylic, 81yds/79m/5oz/142g)
Color – Madison Mustard
Weight – 6
Number of Skeins – 17
Hook – P, 11.5mm
Gauge – 4” square in pattern = 8 sts x 5.5 rows
Note: I recommend practicing the stitch pattern by chaining 17 sts and working up rows 1-3, then repeat rows 2-3 twice. Measure the inner 4” of the swatch to verify the proper gauge and hook size for your blanket. This is worth the time to make a small swatch to verify your gauge and to practice the stitch pattern.
Will need tapestry needle and scissors.

Tassels
Using a DVD case, wrap the yarn around 18 times leaving a 5” tail on one end. Cut a 7” piece of yarn, insert yarn under the wrapped strands and tie the yarn with a double knot. Cut the wraps free on the end opposite your tie knot.
Attach to the blanket in between the two BPdc. Bring your tie tails down and wrap around the tassel strands to create a ‘head’ about ½” thick. Tie securely, insert hook under this tie, yarn over and pull tails through the wrap on the tassel. Trim ends.
